NATCA Statement On Re-Selection of Rep. DeFazio As Ranking Member

WASHINGTON – The National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) today issued the following statement after the House Democratic Caucus selected Rep. Peter DeFazio to continue serving as Ranking Member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure:

“We extend our congratulations to Congressman DeFazio for his selection to continue serving in his role as Ranking Member. NATCA has worked well with him and his staff and we look forward to continuing that relationship.

“In his role as Ranking Member, Congressman DeFazio has been dedicated to securing efficiency and fairness for all users of the National Airspace System (NAS). Throughout his tenure, he has supported aviation employees and the flying public through bills and initiatives calling for vast overhauls in the aviation system.

“Ranking Member DeFazio has also fought to ensure that the United States continues to operate the safest and most efficient aviation system in the world. He has been the voice of reason and integrity, and a champion for air traffic controllers and aviation safety professionals represented by NATCA.

“We look forward to continuing our work with the Ranking Member and with members on both sides of the aisle in the 115th Congress. Our work has yielded progress in modernizing the system and positive results for the American people. However, there is more work to be done. The NAS does not have a stable, predictable funding stream and this uncertainty has caused many serious problems for the system. NATCA is prepared to collaborate with all aviation stakeholders to achieve the stable, predictable funding stream necessary to ensure that the United States remains the world leader in aviation."
